Enjoy boat trips in Bern and the surrounding region

With stunning vineyards, beautiful scenery and fascinating palaces, cruises in the canton of Bern offer unique moments and memorable views.

Boat trips on Lake Biel (Bienne)

If you opt for a cruise in the Lake Biel region, you can choose from an array of attractive options. Take a popular around-the-lake cruise on Lake Biel and explore the Seeland region with its vineyards, colourful forests and idyllic wine-growing villages. You can stop off at St. Petersinsel – one of the region's most popular places to visit and the only island in Lake Biel.

If you opt for a three-lakes cruise between Biel and Murten, you can explore three lakes in one go, as the name suggests: Lakes Biel, Neuchâtel and Morat (Murten). Listen to an audio guide to find out plenty of interesting facts about the Seeland region while taking in stunning views of the unique scenery.

But exciting boat trips don't always have to be on a lake. Cruises on the Aare between Biel and Solothurn take you along the region's best-known river, past a multitude of places of interest: Marvel at the storks in Altreu which have built nests on the roofs of the houses. Catch a glimpse of the little historic town of Büren an der Aare. And enjoy a special highlight of the cruise as you negotiate the Port lock.

BSG vessels operate from the beginning of April to the end of November. Take a look at the timetable to find out more.

Boat trips on Lake Brienz and Lake Thun

Schifffahrt Berner Oberland offers unique crossings and around-the-lake cruises on Lake Thun and Lake Brienz during all four seasons. The fleet boasts 14 vessels, including two impressive paddle steamers.
Cruises on Lake Brienz or Lake Thun take you through the heart of the majestic Bernese Oberland mountain landscape, past historical palaces and romantic lakeside villages. On board you can treat yourself to a delicious lunch or marvel at a unique sunset on a popular evening cruise.

Children will also love cruising on Lake Brienz or Thun: The two paddle steamers boast lovingly designed cabins where your children can play to their hearts' content. Children even travel for free on Saturdays!
Do you want to spend more time exploring the beautiful area around Bern? If so, you can combine boat trips on the two lakes with a range of other excursions. Why not visit the delightful open-air museum in Ballenberg from Lake Brienz? Or book a guided tour of the St Beatus caves in Interlaken near Lake Thun where a magical hidden world of stalactites and stalagmites awaits.

The Schifffahrt Berner Oberland vessels operate from March to December.
